Health Board funding announced Print E-mail

Scottish NHS Boards will share £8bn in funding in 2008/09, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon announced today.

Sturgeon said the funding, which will be shared between the 14 territorial NHS boards and eight special health boards, represents an average increase of 3.3 per cent for each board and will bring NHS Scotland’s overall budget to over £10.65bn.

Of this NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde will receive the largest share with £1.7bn, followed by NHS Lothian with £963m.

Sturgeon said: "Improving the health of all people in Scotland is a top priority for the Scottish Government and today's funding announcement will help us achieve this.

"An additional £257.5m is being provided to enable NHS boards to meet the needs of their local populations in line with the priorities we have set.

"This funding announced today will help health boards deliver better, faster and more local access to treatment, particularly in our most deprived communities.”
