The Government will invest £1.2m in grassroots sports facilities in West Lothian, Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell announced today.
Community-led projects in Fauldhouse and Broxburn will benefit from a
total of £1.2m, through sportscotland, to support the development of
grassroots sport, increase participation and improve health and
wellbeing across West Lothian.
Maxwell said: "This investment will enable more people across West
Lothian to access quality state-of-the-art facilities, where they can
enjoy the benefits of exercise and sport.
"This is an exciting time for Scottish sport and this Government is
committed to improving the health and wellbeing of all Scots through
increasing participation and supporting the improvement of local
facilities such as Fauldhouse Community Education Centre and Broxburn
United's Albyn Park."
Fauldhouse Community Campus will receive £700,000 towards new changing
facilities and the modernisation of its swimming pool and sports hall.
Broxburn United Sports Club will receive £500,000 towards a 10-team
changing room pavilion and a third generation (3G) synthetic pitch. The
new facilities will provide a hub for community sports activity.
This morning Mr Maxwell visited existing facilities at Fauldhouse
Community Centre to meet young people who will benefit from this major
investment in local sport.
Councillor Peter Johnston, leader of West Lothian Council, welcomed the
announcement: "This is a tremendous boost for community sport in West
Lothian. The projects at Fauldhouse and Broxburn will provide greatly
improved facilities for local people which will allow them to take part
and enjoy sporting activities."
Stewart Harris, chief executive of sportscotland, said: "Quality and
accessible sports facilities like the ones to be created in West
Lothian are essential for the development of sport at grassroots level
and sportscotland is committed to providing communities across Scotland
with facilities that meet local priorities."
