Westminster pro-migration group unveiled Print E-mail

A new UK Parliamentary group focusing on migration issues, chaired by Labour MP Jon Cruddas, is being launched today. 

The Migration Parliamentary Group will focus on the benefits of migration to the UK’s economy and society. 

At the group's first meeting "Migration – the facts?", key stakeholders and commentators including Immigration Minister Liam Byrne MP, Professor John Salt, director of Migration Research at University College London, and Jack Dromey, Deputy General Secretary of Unite - the union, will discuss current migration levels and their economic and social impact.

Cruddas said: "I am delighted to chair this new group in Parliament at a time when migration issues are on top of the political agenda and are rarely out of the media limelight.

"We need a more balanced debate in Parliament and this group will give Parliamentarians the opportunity to discuss the issues openly and honestly with campaigners and practitioners on the ground and find out what’s really going on across the country. 

"Finally, we have a platform in Parliament to achieve this and so far the responses have been overwhelmingly positive. This only goes to show that this group has filled an important void on the parliamentary scene."
