Membership of a group set up to review Scotland’s mental health legislation has been announced by the Scottish Government.
Jim McManus, professor of criminal justice at Glasgow Caledonian University, has been appointed convenor of the group, which will make recommendations on how the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 can be improved.
Other members include Annie McGeeney, mental health officer at South Lanarkshire Council, Ian Boddy, service manager at NHS Dumfries & Galloway, and service user Graham Morgan, member of the Highland User Group and Voices of Experience.
The group has been specifically asked to review the processes in respect of the civil provisions of the Act and to advise on changes that should be made to improve the efficiency of the operation of the Act and experience of patients.
Members are expected to consult interested organisations and individuals before completing the review in November.
