First Minister short-listed for ‘Politician of the decade’ award Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 January 2008

SNP leader and First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond has been short-listed for Channel 4’s Politician Of The Decade awards, due to be announced on 23 January.

Salmond joins former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Northern Irish pair Martin McGuinness and the Rev Ian Paisley, and Mayor of London Ken Livingstone on the short-list.

Salmond has already won a number of awards, including The Spectator’s Politician Of The Year award in 2007.

Commenting on the nomination, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:

“This is well-deserved recognition for a man who is, without doubt, one of the most skilful and successful parliamentarians of his generation. This award not only reflects Alex's tenacity as a parliamentarian but also his winning and positive approach to politics. Not only does he work tirelessly on behalf of his constituents, he always stands up for Scotland's interests.”
