Strathclyde Police will receive an extra £1m in funding to help offset costs incurred in dealing with this summer’s terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport.

Strathclyde Police will receive an extra £1m in funding to help offset costs incurred in dealing with this summer’s terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill made the decision after a request from the city’s Joint Police Board.

MacAskill said:

“June's terrorist attack on Glasgow airport was an attack on all the people of Scotland. The response to it from members of the emergency services and the general public helped avert a major disaster. At the time this Government paid tribute to the dedication and professionalism of all the emergency services including the Strathclyde force and its role in protecting the public.

“The force was in the frontline in responding to this major incident and its officers showed remarkable resilience and professionalism in dealing with this unprecedented event in Scotland's history. In recognition of the impact that this major policing operation had on the force, I have agreed to provide them with an extra £1m as a contribution towards the additional costs incurred.”
