Salmond collects green honour Print E-mail
Friday, 07 December 2007

First Minister Alex Salmond has been named Best Politician of the Year in the Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards.

Salmond received the award in recognition of his support for renewable energy over the last year, and his efforts to champion grid issues in Scotland.

The Scottish National Party leader was one of eight award winners at the sixth annual awards which took place at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

The First Minister pointed to the Scottish Government's inaugural Saltire Prize for innovation in industry, which will next year reward the best efforts to develop cutting edge renewable energy technology, as an example of his administration's commitment to the sector.

"A growing and successful renewable energy sector is central to the government’s purpose of increasing sustainable economic growth,” said Salmond. “The Scottish Government is passionate about our nation’s potential as a world leader in renewable generation.”

Scottish Renewables chief executive Jason Ormiston said Salmond was a “valued supporter” of the renewable energy industry in Scotland.
