Emergency packs for carers launched Print E-mail
Wednesday, 05 December 2007

Carers in Edinburgh are to be given packs containing important information for use in emergency situations.

The free packs, which are being launched at the Edinburgh Carers' Centre by Voice of Carers Across Lothian (VOCAL), include wallet-sized emergency cards that can be filled out to include personal information, such as details of the person they care for and emergency contacts, that is vital when unexpected events such as accidents or sudden illness involving the carer occur.

The launch follows the findings of the 2005 Carers UK ‘Back Me Up’ Campaign, which found that 96 per cent of carers worried about how they could cope with unexpected events.

Sebastian Fischer, chief executive of VOCAL says: “Carers are concerned about what will happen to the person they care for if something unforeseen happens to them. The carer emergency card provides reassurance that a family member or neighbour who knows what to do, will be contacted should a crisis arise.”

The packs, which were produced with financial support from AEGON, will be launched on Carers’ Rights Day, 7 December 2007. They will be available to carers attending a drop in event on Friday at the VOCAL Carers' Centre in Edinburgh or can be ordered directly from VOCAL on: 0131 622 6666.
