The Presiding Officer the RT Hon George Reid will visit Quebec, Canada, today as part of this year’s Tartan Week activities.

During his visit Reid will hold discussions with the Rector of Laval University, Michael Pigeon, as well government experts on the devolution of powers within the United Kingdom.

Reid said: "This week has seen Scotland showcase its culture, business and sport to New York. I am now looking forward to discussions with our Canadian friends as to how we can continue to build upon our links with Quebec."

Reid will then travel to New York to lead an anticipated 2,000 marchers in the 2007 New York City National Tartan Day Parade. The parade, for which Reid will be Grand Marshal, marks the end of a fortnight of activities and meetings undertaken by the Presiding Officer to celebrate Tartan Week.
