St Andrew's Day concerts announced Print E-mail
Friday, 09 November 2007

The line-up for the world-wide series of St Andrew’s Day concerts has been announced today by Culture Minister Linda Fabiani.

Announcing the line-up Fabiani said: "St Andrew's Day is a celebration of Scotland both here at home and all around the world.  This year we are rejoicing in our National Day and the start of the Winter Festival that will run on through Hogmanay to Burns Night.

"I'm pleased to announce the fantastic musical line up that reflects the breadth of Scottish music today.

"Scotland has a thriving music scene - both traditional and contemporary.  It's great to see some of our own artists and the fascinating way they are fusing influences from historic and modern Scotland.”

There will be two purpose-built marquees in Edinburgh. The Scottish Pavilion in West Prince’s Street Gardens will feature a large ceilidh with live Scottish music including performances by Salsa Celtica, The Porridge Men, the Portobello Ceilidh Band, and with a special guest appearance by Sandi Thom.

The Chiller Tent in front of the Ross Band stand will feature several chilled groove bands and DJs including performances by DJs Aki and Barney Strachan, The Andy May Trio, The Colin Steele Quartet featuring Cathie Rae. In both tents, admission is free and un-ticketed.

Toby Shippey of the headline band Salsa Celtica said: "We are very happy and proud to be playing a gig to celebrate Scotland's national day, St Andrews day. It will be a great night with fantastic music and great spirit, let’s all take the day off."
