Three MSPs have been appointed by the European and External Relations Committee to follow up the recommendations of a previous European Union inquiry.
Alex Neil, Irene Oldfather and Iain Smith will look at the findings of
the last European and External Relations committee, which asked Jim
Wallace to lead an inquiry into the Scottish Government's effectiveness
at representing Scottish interests at EU level.
Current committee convener Malcolm Chisholm said: "The previous
committee's inquiry revealed that there are real concerns about the way
in which legislation from Brussels adequately reflects Scottish
interests, its unique legal system and the needs of Scottish
stakeholders.
"This new inquiry will focus on the way in which the Scottish
Government engages with those stakeholders and the UK Government as
well as looking at the transparency of this process."
The closing date for the consultation is 11 January 2008.
One person has commented on this article. 1. MSPs take forward Scotland and Europe inquiry Gordon Hill, Unregistered I hope there will be some more details. This is a big and very important subject especially as the current SNP Government wants independence within the EU. Will independence mean anything useful if Scotland is ruled from Brussels instead of Westminster
