As part of efforts to bolster Glasgow’s economic regeneration, the leader of Glasgow City Council, Steven Purcell, has announced a regular series of surgeries to be held with business leaders from the area.
These surgeries are the first of their kind in Scotland and will allow
businesses of any size to talk face-to-face with the council leader.
The surgeries are to be held on the first Friday afternoon of each
month and are modelled on councillors' constitutency surgeries.
Purcell said: "Our aim is to make Glasgow the most business-friendly
city in the country, and to be known around the world as a place where
companies can flourish.
"I am taking personal responsibility, as the leader of Glasgow City
Council, for ensuring that the private sector is able to access the
politicians and officials who make decisions that affect them.
"This is a natural progression of the quarterly meetings I've been
having with Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and the business community in
the city over the last two years. These meetings are held at a
strategic level, and the new scheduled surgeries will allow businesses
to bring specific issues or problems to Glasgow City Council to my
attention."
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce chief executive Dr Lesley Sawers said: "We
believe Glasgow is leading the way through a partnership between the
City Council and the Chamber in delivering scheduled business
surgeries.
"The new surgeries will allow individual business people to have a
direct dialogue with Councillor Purcell, ensuring the city and business
continue to work in partnership, on a common agenda, to deliver growth
and prosperity."
All surgeries are by appointment and can be booked by contacting
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce on 0141 204 2121 or via email on
