First Minister Alex Salmond has called for a national debate on handing powers over abortion law in Scotland from Westminster to Holyrood.

Tens of thousands of Scottish primary school children are being taught in overcrowded classes , many of which are at least 50 per cent bigger than the official Government target.

Under-18s are to be told how to drink safely as part of a new Government crackdown on teenage bingeing, ministers disclosed last night. 

Glasgow and Edinburgh will be connected by up to 15 trains an hour - some non-stop services taking 30 minutes - under ambitious plans to create a central belt 'super-corridor'.
