The Glasgow Housing Association has been given a ‘fair’ rating in the first in-depth assessment of its performance as a social landlord.
The association, which took ownership of over 80,000 homes from Glasgow
City Council in 2003, has met, or is meeting, most of the promises it
made to tenants at the time of the transfer ballot, according to a
report by Communities Scotland.
However, the report also found that the association was falling behind in its investment, demolition and new-build programme.
Karen Watt, director of regulation and inspection at Communities
Scotland, said: "The GHA is still a young organisation that operates in
challenging circumstances, and it shows a strong commitment to
improving."
Sandra Forsythe, tenant chair of Glasgow Housing Association, welcomed
the report. "The inspectors acknowledge that GHA has shown a strong
willingness to improve and we've already made a number of significant
changes as a result of the inspection process," she said.
The association must now respond to the report’s recommendations and agree an improvement plan to tackle areas of weakness.
