Scottish fashion takes centre stage in London Print E-mail
Monday, 17 September 2007

Scotland’s Minister for Culture is supporting the new wave of Scottish designers at London Fashion Week and will welcome guests to a reception to celebrate New Scottish Talent.

Linda Fabiani will attend Christopher Kane's catwalk show and support eight of Glasgow's emerging young fashion designers as they present their collections to the international fashion industry and media.

The Scottish Government has provided £30,000 to promote Scottish fashion at London Fashion Week, which is fast overtaking Paris and New York as the international fashion week of choice.

Fabiani said: "Scotland's young fashion designers are making a great impact on the world of fashion. The Scottish Government is pleased to be working with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau to showcase Glasgow: Scotland with Style Design Collective here at London Fashion Week 2007.

"This is a great opportunity for eight of our brightest young fashion designers to showcase their talent on a global stage.

"The textiles sector is very important to Scotland, employing 38,000 people and generating over £2 billion per year. We have world-class design schools that have supported an inspiring array of designers who continue to captivate the industry. And it is exciting to see this new generation of designers who promise not only to uphold Scotland's design kudos but to build on it.

"I am thrilled to support our talented young designers and show that Scotland is a great place to flourish both creatively and commercially."

The  Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective 2007 members include Christopher Kane, Brazen, Olanic, Aimee McWilliams, Deryck Walker, Jamie Bruski Tetsill, Scott Ramsay Kyle and Vidler & Nixon.

Bailie Liz Cameron, vice chair of the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, which provided £40,000 of support, said:

"The Glasgow: Scotland with style Design Collective initiative – now in its third season - provides a high profile platform for these young designers, which not only raises awareness of their creativity to style setters, fashion buyers and media attending London Fashion Week but also converts into actual sales and press coverage of their work."
