The Lord Advocate was under renewed pressure from MSPs this weekend as fresh evidence emerged that the prosecution of the World's End murder trial was bungled.

The SNP is planning a major expansion of Scottish 'embassies' in a bid to boost the nation's profile across the globe.

The SNP was spied on by British secret service agents , previously classified Government files seen by Scotland on Sunday have finally proved. 

Controversial plans to close more than 20 schools in Edinburgh have been officially ditched . A special meeting of Edinburgh City Council saw the proposals scrapped after a motion by the Labour and Green group was agreed by councillors. 

Labour's "attack dog", Dr John Reid, the former Home Secretary, has announced that he will quit Westminster at the next general election.
