Affordable housing investment announced for Borders Print E-mail
Tuesday, 28 August 2007

The Executive today gave the go-ahead for investment of over £3m in affordable new homes in the Borders.

Communities and Sport Minster Stewart Maxwell approved funding for the homes in Kelso, Eyemouth and Jedburgh.

The Minister made the announcement during a visit to Galashiels to open a £5m development of 60 affordable homes which was completed last year with the aid of Communities Scotland funding.

He also met representatives of registered social landlords and Scottish Borders Council in Melrose, before holding discussions on housing with regional MSPs.
Ahead of his visit, Maxwell said: "I have begun the process of opening a dialogue with as many people as possible across Scotland to look at how we can increase the number of decent, affordable homes we build in the most cost-effective ways.

"This visit will be an important part of that conversation in the Scottish Borders."
