SEStran launches car sharing savings calculator Print E-mail
Tuesday, 28 August 2007

SEStran, the regional transport partnership for the South-east of Scotland, has launched an online calculator to show drivers how much they could save by car sharing.

The calculator, part of the TripshareSestran website , has been developed by Liftshare and allows users to input a wide range of data about how much they are currently spending on travelling, including vehicle value, insurance cost and parking charges, and calculates how much they could save through sharing their journeys.

Over 2,000 people throughout South East Scotland are already sharing car journeys and SEStran hopes that the calculator will encourage more drivers to consider joining the Tripshare scheme.

SEStran Chair Councillor Russell Imrie said: “Sharing car journeys makes good financial sense and it’s a practical step that anyone can take to help tackle congestion on the roads and reduce the region’s CO2 footprint.

“The new calculator lets people see for themselves that car sharing offers real advantages. They don’t have to take our word for it; they can work it out for themselves. It makes an excellent contribution towards SEStran’s aim of widening people’s transport choices, by empowering them to make those choices based upon knowledge.”
