Anti-Bullying Campaign announced Print E-mail
Friday, 17 August 2007

Respectme, Scotland’s Anti-Bullying service, is to launch a national awareness-raising campaign to emphasise that bullying should never be tolerated.

The campaign - ‘It’s Never Acceptable’ - beginning on 20 August, will target children and young adults, sending posters to every primary, secondary and residential school in Scotland.  This will be supported by an advertising campaign which will feature on Lothian Buses, the Glasgow Subway, Scotrail trains and radio stations across the country.

Respectme aims to assist those who have a role to play in the lives of children and young people involved in bullying and has launched a series of training events.  The free events which will be held in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dumfries, Dundee and Inverness, will cover the several issues including signs of bullying; what bullying behaviour is; advice on what to do if a young person or child tells you they are being bullied; using anti-bullying policies.

Respectme Director Brian Donnelly said:  “Our message is clear; it’s never an acceptable part of anyone’s life.

“We want to work in partnership with all adults, individuals and organisations to give confidence to those who need it, to promote the good work that’s out there and to give a voice to those who have never had one.

“Respectme aims to empower everyone from parents to policy makers to make sure that all children and young people can live, work and play in a safe and nurturing environment.”
