However much global emission reduce, Scotland’s climate will continue to change for decades to come and so we must adapt as well as mitigate, Climate Change minister Stewart Stevenson warned today.
Addressing delegates at Holyrood magazine’s Delivering on 2020 climate change conferences in Edinburgh today, Stevenson also spoke about the low-carbon economy that the Scottish Government hopes to realise in Scotland.
Our future lies in low carbon technologies and greener business, he said, adding that action on climate change makes good business sense.
Scotland has the most ambitious emissions reduction targets in the world, he stated, and the natural resources and desire to become a leading low carbon economy. He called on Scots to seize the opportunity and make the transition a reality.
It is vitally important that the public sector seeks to lead from the front and play its part in helping take Scotland forward into the low-carbon economy of the future, he said, adding that it must also continue to take greater responsibility for the environmental impact of its actions, tackle barriers to progress and build on existing good practice.
